'Be Brave' and 'Daydream' by Elisa Ablett

Hi everyone,

Elisa here from the design team with my latest creations for Shop and Crop Scrapbooking.

Did you know that if you place an order with Shop and Crop Scrapbooking you can use the code EA5 at the checkout to receive a discount !

Today I am sharing with you a layout I created using the We R Memory Keepers (High Five Collection) from the we-r-memory-keepers-high-five-collection-bundle-kit that is available from the Shop. This bundle is awesome as you get the full matching kit and embellishments, perfect for those boy layouts!

I am also sharing a mixed media tag using the leftovers from Expo Kit No.9 and Distress Ink Oxides which are also available from the Shop in an amazing bundle deal!

Kylie at Shop and Crop is doing a deal on the entire first set of inks for $100. If you use the code EA5, you can get a further $5 off. It truly is the best bargain on this complete set i have seen out there. I've ordered a set! the same deal is available on Set 2.

To achieve the watercolour background look I used water and Broken China Distress Stain and also splashes of Black Dylusions Spray. Then I added stamping with this amazing Arty Triangles stamp from Darkroom Door. I also used a texture die cut from Kaisercraft.

Now onto my mixed media tag using the Distress Ink Oxides and the leftovers i had from Expo Kit 9.

I SO LOVE these stamp pads, they are a must have item. This is the finished result, I have included a small tutorial so keep reading!

I wanted to share a step by step tutorial with you on how I created the background using the Oxide Ink pads.

Firstly I chose my favourite beachy colours Salty Ocean, Broken China, Peacock Feathers and Antique Linen and grabbed my spray bottle of water. I gesso'd my mixed media tag and other chipboard pieces and let them dry.

Firstly I laid down my first colour by rubbing the inkpad directly onto my craft mat and then spraying liberally with water, then I dipped the tag upside down into the large droplets of colour, creating water patterns on the tag.

The awesome thing about the Oxides is that you can layer the colours on, one by one and they dont produce that horrible mud colour you get with watercolours, when you mix colours together!!! So keep layering your colours on your tag and dry with a heat gun in between.

Next step is to drop large droplets of water directly onto your tag from a large paintbrush and dry immediately with a heat gun, it produces these lovely bleached circles on your tag.

Another technique you can use is to apply the inkpad directly to your chipboard which causes the colour to deepen. Then add droplets of water over the top and dry immediately.

Onto the last step for your background on the tag! Stamp using the oxide inkpads onto your tag, you will get the lovely deeper colour.

Here are some close ups of the finished tag!

Well thats it from me today! I hope you have enjoyed the tutorial, make sure you leave me some love and if you want to see more of my work and subscribe to my blog you can visit my blog here - 2crazycrafters

Floating on Air and Distress Oxide Bargain

Hello crafty friends!

Today I'm going to share three cards and an opportunity to grab a bargain on some Distress Oxide inks.

I don't think I'm ever going to get sick of the September Cropaholic Kit! Honestly, it's my favourite thing yet. I've made three cards to share with you today, using various parts of the kit.

Firstly I used the clear plastic packaging that came with the kit to do some ink smooshing onto watercolour paper. I used Distress Inks in Peacock Feathers, Abandoned Coral, and Wild Honey. Then I used the stamp that came with the kit (pictured below) and laid it onto the blue and a little onto the coral ink and left it there until the ink dried. You can see that the ink is paler  where it had contact with the stamp. Then over to the left on the coral, you can see a darker pattern where I inked up the stamp and stamped on top of the ink.
I finished the card by mounting the panel onto cardstock, and using some heart wood veneers and the word today from the cutout sheet. In order to have it make sense as a card sentiment, I rummaged through my stamps until I found one with the word "enjoy" on it, and white heat embossed it to complete the card.

For this second card I got out my Distress Oxide inks. This is where the bargain comes in. The lovely Kylie at Shop and Crop is doing a deal on the entire first set of inks for $100. If you use the code DL5, you can get a further $5 off, so that the inks will be $95, instead of the RRP of $114 for the set. Bargain! I've ordered a set! the same deal is available on Set 2.

I used an old feather stencil that a friend gave me to make the feathers for this card. I used an ink blending tool and the distress inks glide on like butter. Unlike regular dye inks, they are very forgiving, and don't leave dark splodges if you accidentally press too hard. (which I do often). I used the exact same colours as the first card, but this time in the Oxide inks. I then carefully fussy the feathers, leaving a small white border. The Jillibean Soup paper with the feathers was a perfect match, but needed toning down a little so that the card wasn't too busy. I'm really pleased with the effect of the different sizes of feathers, but there are many images in the kit that would look great on this card, like the cute bicycles.

Here's a close up look at the layers of the card.

Finally, I have a very simple card that highlight the papers in the kit. There were so many combinations of papers I could have chosen to make this card, and all of the Shop and Crop Kits (except the Mixed Media Kit) have coordinating papers, so this is a card design you could use for any kit from any month!

I hope this has inspired you to stretch the supplies in your kit to get the most out of it, and that even if you're not a card maker, that you've enjoyed looking at the designs.

If you'd like to see more, feel free to visit me on Instagram  and see what else I've been up to!

Don't forget to use the code DL5 if you're planning to get the Oxides, so you can get the cheaper price.

Until next time, may you enjoy every day, and get a chance to be creative too!

Blessings,
Donna

January title page with Sarah Rosse

Hello crafty friends, Sarah here with a layout for you using a number of the super duper products from the online Shop and Crop store. This layout is an 8.5X11 inch page for my family album. It is the front page for January. The inspiration for this layout was the sketch of the month as seen here...
The base of this layout is patterned paper from my stash and I have used the new Tinby Designs Color Crush watercolour powder in Sea Green to create the background. I placed some powder on some plastic packaging, spritzed it with water and turned it over on to the page. These amazing watercolour powders can be seen instore here.

I used some stamps - The Darkroom Door Arty Triangles collage stamp and Kaisercraft's 'Stains' Acrylic stamps. The Darkroom Door stamps range in store can be purchased here. The extensive range of Kaisercraft products online can be seen here. The paper and stickers used in this layout is from the Echo Park Paper Co Dino Friends collection - it can be purchased in store here Let's take a closer look.

Thanks so much for joining me...until next time....

Paperific Expo Melbourne

Hello,
Deena here with you today.

I cannot believe that it was a month ago that I was at Paperific here in Melbourne. I hadn't attend a show in years certainly not since it has been at the Royal Melbourne Show Grounds. This experience was totally different as I was actually working. If you call standing around talking to lots of friendly people and sitting and getting messy work, then yes I was working. When it came to saying goodbye I didn't want to leave, I had an amazing time meeting and working sided by side with Kylie and Darryl who own and run Shop and Crop Scrapbooking and also having a blast with fellow design team member Donna. I love making cards and I will keep doing it but watching Donna create was the next level. You can find the cards Donna made at Paperific HERE.

So what did I get to play with? I played with Expo Kit No. 4. which was designed by another design team member, the talented and gorgeous Elisa.

Instead of creating a layout a created a mixed media canvas (canvas not included in kit)
To start the canvas I spread a layer of gesso unevenly over the surface of the canvas. The reason for this was because I wanted to create texture (I love texture and layers) and I wanted to stamp into the wet gesso to create more texture.

I dried the gesso with a heat gun then using the same stamp that I stamped into the gesso with I used a waterproof black ink to stamp the image. Because the surface of the gesso was a little shiny I did hit the ink with a heat gun to make it was completely dry.

When I first started this canvas I really had no idea what I was going to do once I had completed the background. So at this point I had to stop and think. I had these amazing chipboard pieces that I really had to use. I found a black paint so I could colour the chipboard and set it aside to dry.

While the chipboard was drying, I added colour to my background. I used the dylusion spray that was in the kit and added water to make it run. You want to make sure that the colour spreads across you canvas, so that it brings the texture you have created to life. If you add too much water then add more colour and vice versa.

Once happy with the colour added I dry the canvas with a heat gun. Also included in the kit was a gold mousse, that's so versatile. I rubbed it over the background to show more texture, I rubbed it on the chipboard circles. I also added it to the row of triangle but I added it with a palette knife so it was thick and lump.

After gluing the chipboard pieces to the canvas, I added black paint splatters. I couldn't find a paint brush at the time so I improvised and used my palette knife. Love the result.

I also created a couple of backgrounds.

These were done on a pieces of mixed media paper, the can be cut up to be used in a layout, another canvas, as an art journal page or even on cards.

Happy Creating
